Product News: Hatch Gloves, Elbeco, Staytux and Precision Custom Coatings

By Jackie Rosselli

Labor Day marks the unofficial end to Summer for many, but there’s still plenty of warm weather to be found throughout the country. Warm weather, however, can present dangerous challenges for many occupations, particularly those working in law enforcement. Officers working in hot climates have found it difficult to strike a balance between staying comfortable and wearing the proper protective equipment. That is, until now.

To deal with the problem of protective equipment raising body temperatures, glove manufacturer Hatch, a part of Armor Holdings Product Group, has developed a product designed to dissipate heat while providing maximum protection.

The Cool Tac glove keeps officers hands cool while maintaining essential design and protection, according to a company press statement. The top of the Hatch Cool Tac glove is made with three dimensional knit spacer fabric, which is extremely breathable and inherently shock absorbent due to the polyester fibers supporting the 3-D configuration of the fabric. The palm is constructed from Pittards hair sheep leather for extreme tactility and features the Hatch signature ergonomic cut, designed to follow the natural curvature of the hand for a superb fit that is inherently shock absorbent.

"An officer is only going to wear a glove he can do his job in, and the Cool Tac is the solution for hot climates," stated Bill Hatch, head of research and development. "The palm area is as thin as a golf glove so officers have maximum dexterity, touch and feel."

Hatch Cool Tac Gloves come in sizes xsm - xxlg and are immediately available from the manufacturer.

While Cool Tac Gloves protects the wearer in warm climates, the Elastique Trouser, a new item recently introduced by Elbeco, is designed to be worn during the coldest months.

The new winter trouser, designed exclusively for the United States Postal Service, features heavy weight 15 oz., 100% polyester Elastique with Moisture Control System (MCS). The new fabric will provide increased warmth and moisture wicking to enhance comfort while keeping the wearer dry.

The MCS technology was added to the Elastique fabric to improve its moisture management by wicking moisture to the surface of the fabric for rapid evaporation, exceeding stringent USPS regulations.

Elbeco has used Elastique fabrics to manufacture its cavalry twill public safety uniforms for over 25 years. The fabric has a proven track record of durability and longevity while maintaining a distinctive, professional appearance.

Styling on the trouser remains the same as the Dacron/Orlon tropical trousers, with the hip patch
removed to meet USPS specifications. Regular and comfort cuts are available which feature
extra-deep quarter-top front pockets, double-tipped pocket bags, lined inserted belt loops, bar tacks, pressed-open tailored seam construction and a triple-stitched crotch.

Elbeco postal uniforms are union-made in the U.S.A. by over 400 employees in facilities located in PA, OH and MO.

That unkempt, sloppy look may be a thing of the past thanks to a new product from a two-year-old company named Staytux.

It was while walking his dog that inventor Rick Hamlet made the first of many observations that led him to his patent-pending invention, StayTux. His dog’s sweater kept riding up over her legs, and no matter which way she shifted or pulled, the material always moved in the same direction.

Some 15 years later, Hamlet has launched StayTux, a technology that causes a shirt or blouse not only to stay tucked in all day, but also to re-tuck itself as the wearer moves. The result is a well-groomed appearance that leaves you looking as neat at the end of the day as you did at the start, says Hamlet.

The patent-pending fabric is composed of angled fibers that force the shirt to continually move in a downward direction and resist becoming untucked. “The best part about this product is that it takes no extra thought or effort by the wearer,” says Hamlet.

StayTux seeks to license its product for use on dress shirts, uniforms, sportswear, formalwear and other apparel. “Incorporating this new fabric will create added value and brand differentiation the apparel industry has not seen since the invention of the zipper,” adds Hamlet.

This month’s final entry comes from Precision Custom Coatings LLC (PCC), a U.S. manufacturer of nonwoven and coated fabrics for apparel industry and industrial market applications.

The company recently introduced Comfort Stretch Thermal Bond Nonwoven, which offers unsurpassed stretch, recovery and comfort. Stretchable Nonwoven Style CS85 and CS96 are targeted at apparel manufacturers requiring interlinings for stretch areas such as waistbands.

PCC’s new products are coated with the manufacturer’s proprietary KF Resin, which provides softness, along with durability, washability and dryclean-ability under a wide range of conditions.
“Precision Custom Coatings has developed a versatile interlining for stretchable waistband needs that has the stretch and recovery properties of a true elastic,” said Jay Waxer, vice president, PCC Apparel Division. “Manufacturers using this product will save time and money in production, since extra sewing steps and handling processes will be eliminated, while creating a higher quality fit and a more comfortable garment.”

PCC’s Stretchable Nonwoven Style CS85 and CS96 are suitable for all types of washing processes, from stone and acid to enzyme, and are designed to withstand multiple commercial washings through the life of the garment. This technology also allows PCC to customize weights and finishes to suit its customers’ needs. Offered in white and charcoal, the Comfort Stretch interlinings are available in 60” widths and can be pre-slit to specified sizes. These products are suitable for pants, shorts and skirts for men’s, women’s and children’s apparel.

The Company is a key supplier to a range of markets including automotive, healthcare, wipes, and geotextiles. PCC also manufactures goods for use in home furnishings, filtration, footwear, and a range of other industries.
