Chance Recommends Safety Officers Replace Zylon
Vests
Second
Chance Body Armor, the Michigan-based manufacturer embroiled
in numerous legal battles over its products,
is recommending the immediate replacement of
any of its bullet-resistant vests containing
Zylon fiber.
The announcement came on June 22, in the form
of a press release and two safety notices to police
departments across the country. According to the
statement, new research from one of the nation’s
leading polymer chemists has shown that protective
vests constructed only partially from Zylon may
fail to perform and result in serious injury or
death. The safety notices urge all officers who
own and wear Tri-Flex vests or Ultima and Ultimax
vests with Performance Pacs to replace these vests
immediately with products that do not contain Zylon.

“When in
the course of human events...”
So begins our Declaration of Independence celebrated
this month. This document set forth our country’s
mission by declaring independence and advocating
the importance of values of freedom and equality.
Our group of brilliant founding fathers codified
the principles that defined the vanguard of contemporary
Western philosophy addressing and promoting the
rights of man. And to demonstrate their seriousness,
they publicly pledged their lives, fortunes and
sacred honor to uphold those ideals.

Product Round-Up:
Milliken, Invista, and SanMar
By Jackie Rosselli
Starting this
month, UniformMarket will include information
on company product launches or new lines in
an expanded segment -- the Product Round-Up.
These occasional articles will feature news on
new products that we’ve received from you
-- our readers, with the info rmation prominently
displayed in the beginning section of UniformMarket,
rather than merely listed as another news item.
We do this for two reasons. First, we believe
that product news received directly from readers
shouldn’t be lumped with info rmation we’ve
gathered from other outside sources. Second, as
a vehicle for the uniform industry, we believe
that the dissemination of info rmation regarding
industry advances is an important component of
what this magazine should do. This info rmation,
therefore, should receive the attention it deserves.

The
Three Most Common Mistakes Sales Managers Make
By Dave Kahle
In most organizations,
sales managers are the essential bridge between
the company's sales goals and the realization
of those goals. The gritty day-to-day interactions
between the sales people and their customers
are frequently filtered through the perspective
of the sales manager on their way up the ladder.
It's an incredibly important and difficult job.
Unfortunately, it is often the most under-trained
job in the entire organization. Instead of providing
info rmation on the best practices and processes
of the job, most companies hope that their sales
managers will have learned enough during their
days as a field salesperson to provide some roadmap
as to how to do this job well.
