At Work Uniforms will be supplying uniforms to The University of Alabama

April, 2004 – (Company Release) At Work Uniforms, a career apparel supplier to universities, municipalities, businesses and industrial customers, has been awarded the contract to supply the uniforms for the custodial staff and the facilities personnel of The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Shannon Campbell, CEO, said, "We are very excited about being the uniform supplier to the approximately 500 employees of these two major departments of The University of Alabama.”

At Work Uniforms is a female-owned business based in Orange Beach, Ala., and is a member of the Business Council of Alabama. The company is a leading uniform and corporate apparel manufacturer with sales coverage throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

"In addition to our own brands, we represent over 100 manufacturers who provide us with the largest varieties of stock uniform items from which to choose," said Randy Hutcheson, general manager of the company’s Birmingham operation and sales offices. "We also offer additional services for customizing apparel such as sewing on emblems, embroidering logos, and screen-printing" he added.

At Work Uniforms works with numerous universities, as well as small and large corporations, privately owned businesses, transportation companies, hospitals, and the U.S. government.

Intex Corp. plans to shut down its fabric printing plant by the end of June and lay off 115 workers, town officials said.

June, 2004 - (AP) "It was a jaw dropper," Pilot Mountain town manager John Robertson said. "They had been a good employer in town. It's unfortunate the whole family over there will be out of work."

Company officials could not be reached for immediate comment.

The 95,000-square-foot factory has been open in Pilot Mountain since the late 1980s and could print 600,000 yards of fabric per week and bleach 120,000 pounds per week, according to the company's Web site.

The plant for the Greensboro-based company is the biggest water and sewer customer for the town of Pilot Mountain. Pilot Mountain Mayor Aaron Hunter said the closing will cost the town $130,000 to $150,000.

"The main thing is to get these people back to work," Robertson said. "We're just going to have to look at it from an economic view and see what the town has to do to keep taxes down and services up. We're going to have to tighten our belts, but there are 115 people who don't have a belt anymore."

Milliken StainSmart™ fabrics provide durable stain repel- and-release to guard against stains; ensuring uniforms stay clean and last longer

March, 2004 – (Company Release) Milliken & Company, one of the world’s largest privately-held textile and chemical manufacturers, today announced that its StainSmart™ fabrics are now available in nurses’ scrubs at select retail stores nationwide. Peaches Uniforms, Inc., a leading provider of healthcare uniforms, is the manufacturer that has introduced these scrubs.

"We created StainSmart to fulfill a distinct void in stain protection for fabrics: a fabric that not only repels stains but resists them," said David Kirkpatrick, director of sales for Milliken Uniform Fabrics. "We're pleased to provide the uniform and work apparel markets with another smart fabric solution."

Milliken’s StainSmart provides the “best of both worlds” in a patent-pending stain prevention technology. The “repel” function allows most liquid-based spills to bead up and be wiped off, thereby preventing them from initially staining the fabric. The “release” function works on tough, ground-in stains that penetrate fabric – like Betadine or blood – by allowing these stains to wash out during normal laundering. These innovative dual-action stain protection capabilities last for the life of the garment.

“We chose StainSmart for our scrubs because it’s the most advanced stain protection available,” said Linda Shorter, vice president of Merchandising and Design at Peaches Uniforms. “You can’t always prevent spills and accidents from occurring, but with StainSmart nurses can now have uniforms that help guard against most of the toughest stains on the job.”

In an independent consumer survey by Markitecture, stains and soils are identified as one of a nurse’s main worries when it comes to scrubs. Independent testing verifies that StainSmart currently outperforms other stain protection methods available today.

“In a head-to-head comparison of stain repellent products in the apparel market, Clothes Care Research Center (CCRC), an alliance of leading manufacturers and research laboratories dedicated to improving home clothing care, found that StainSmart outperformed leading repellent technologies for water and oil repellency,” said Dr. Elizabeth P. Easter, board member for CCRC and director of the University of Kentucky’s Textile Testing Laboratory. “StainSmart delivered unsurpassed soil release performance on tough stains such as oil and its color retention performance was significantly better than fabrics of comparable fiber types.”

Availability

New StainSmart medical scrubs are available under Peaches Uniforms’ Petal Soft Pastel brand at healthcare and nurse uniform retail stores nationwide.

StainSmart’s innovative stain protection capabilities make it an ideal technology for high performance active apparel, workwear, military, uniform, and the casual menswear and womenswear markets. StainSmart technology is also available for custom fabric development in a variety of uses and markets. Elbeco’s new mil-spec Basic Duty Uniform first BDU designed for law enforcement use

April, 2004 – (Company Release) Elbeco has introduced the first battle dress uniform (BDU) specifically designed for public safety and law enforcement use. The new BasicDuty Uniform is made from Elbeco’s rugged, high quality poly/cotton Tactical Twill fabric that provides better color matching and fade resistance, superior strength and more comfort than typical ripstop BDU fabrics. The new public safety uniform provides exceptional functionality and durability for any use, including tactical team operations, SWAT teams, training details, schools, Emergency Medical (EMS/EMT) and every day law enforcement use.

In May of 2003, the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) completed testing of the BasicDuty Uniform, giving it a total score of 4.45 out of a possible five. Uniforms were tested in the field both on the job and in training and have held up to the task, gaining an Excellent score.

Elbeco’s BasicDuty Uniforms are designed with several enhancements not found on typical BDUs, making the new uniform ideal for law enforcement use. These enhancements include a heavy duty #42 brass zipper and slider fly on the pants that is much easier to use than the traditional button fly. Matching shirt and pants pockets with inverted pleats provide extra roominess and a more professional look. Additionally, the shirts feature a practical reinforced shoulder strap, with a removable button featuring a 2” mike/utility opening.

All stitching, fit, parts, findings, model configuration, and sizing for Elbeco’s BasicDuty Uniform pants are compatible with US military specification MIL-T-44047E. Features of the new pants include a 6-pocket design, fused spill-proof pocket flaps, adjustable side tabs at the waist and nylon drawstrings at the legs. Elbeco’s authentic BasicDuty Uniform shirts are designed to surpass typical tactical shirt models and to meet public safety uniform standards. The shirts incorporate a 2-pocket design with snag proof button flaps and cuffs designed for roll-up functionality. Both garments feature reinforced patches (knees, elbows and seat) for added strength.

Uniform sizes range from XSR to XXXXLR (Unisex with normal BasicDuty Uniform sizing and fit). Elbeco’s BasicDuty Uniform pants and shirts are available in true dark navy and black, and can be mixed and matched with the complete Elbeco Tactical Twill product offering and other standard uniform colors.
