Doing it Their Way: Women-Owned Uniform Businesses

Overall, the state of women’s business ownership in the United States is quite strong – one in eighteen women in the U.S. is a business owner. And the number of women-owned businesses continues to grow at twice the rate of all U.S. firms, according to the National Women’s Business Council, a bi-partisan federal government board created to serve as an independent source of information on matters affecting women business owners. As of 2004, there were an estimated 10.6 million privately-held businesses in which a woman or women owned at least 50 percent of the company. Among them, 6.7 million were majority-owned.

Army’s New Uniforms Mean Jobs and Work for Battered Textile Industry

With the end of quotas and the continued flow of imports, many have predicted the quick demise of what’s left of America’s manufacturing and textile industries. The loss of jobs, well documented in this and other publications, was expected to hasten come January 1 st. But it appears these predictions may have been short-sighted. In the nation’s south – the region most adversely affected by the elimination of quotas and offshore production, some companies and their employees are actually experiencing a reprieve of sorts. Instead of disappearing, textile jobs are actually be added.

Communicating Price Increases to Your Customers

Price increases from several of your suppliers! Your customers won't like that. How do you manage to pass on that price increase without losing business or giving away margin dollars?

This is becoming a major issue for distributors. The economic pendulum has inevitably reached its apex and begun to swing back in the other direction. In many industries the pressure to reduce prices is coming to an end, being replaced by upward pressure on prices. Unfortunately, many sales forces are peopled with individuals who have never lived through a time of price increases.
