No
doubt about it – body armor saves lives. More
than 2,700 police officers have been saved
since lightweight body armor became readily
available 30 years ago. An officer who is not
wearing armor is 14 times more likely to suffer
a fatal injury and an officer who is. And in
a post-9/11 world, with men and women fighting
in Iraq and the threat of home-based terrorism
ever present, the importance of body armor
cannot be overstated.

Practices That Will Increase Your Margins
By
Dave Kahle
I don't
know a distributor who doesn't lose sleep over
what seems like the inevitable degradation
in gross margins.
There are a number of factors that weave together to make
margin shrinkage an issue for everyone. In many areas,
competition has increased dramatically. As new competitors
vie for your business, they naturally lower prices to buy
their way into your accounts. In many industries, products
cost less today than they did five years ago. In the face
of decreasing prices, it's difficult to maintain gross

Sized
to Fit: Female Marines Given New Gender-Friendly
Uniform Sizing Options
Would
most men be comfortable wearing women’s

Marine Corps. have been asked to don men’s
uniforms for years, creating comfort problems
and fit nightmares. But that all changed on
January 24 th. Female Marines are finally being
given the opportunity to be issued and buy
combat uniforms and footwear that better accommodate
female proportions if they are dissatisfied
with the fit of the current uniform. From now
on, all clothing stores will begin stocking
six new cammie blouse and seven new trouser
sizes that specifically accommodate most female
Marines in areas where fit and function issues
are most frequently found.

Proud
of Recognition, Univator Winners Use Results
as Marketing Tool
Last
month, UniformMarket featured the winners of
its first
Univator Awards, a program designed to
recognize the creativity, diversity and innovations
of the uniform industry. A call for entries
went out in the Fall, while the staff busily
surfed the internet for their favorite programs
and marketing techniques. We considered several
dozen companies for top honors, but in the
end, we decided to bestow the award on five
worthy businesses. Cintas, Aramark, Creative
Uniforms, Gorgonz and Barco all walked away
with a Univator.
